Maria Edgeworth Letters Project Transcribe-A-Thon

The Maria Edgeworth Letters Project (MELP: mariaedgeworth.org ) team invites you to join us for a transcribe-a-thon featuring Anglo-Irish novelist Maria Edgeworth’s written correspondence on Thursday, April 13 from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the University of Tennessee Student Union (Room 270), located 1.4 miles from the conference hotel.

Participants will contribute to our collaborative MELP digital resource by transcribing letters exchanged between Edgeworth and historical figures such as Sir Walter Scott, William Wordsworth, and Frances Burney, as well as editors and numerous family members. Through MELP, these transcriptions will be made freely available to researchers and anyone who is interested in learning about Edgeworth’s influence in the literary, political, educational and scientific discourses of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. During this session, you’ll hear from project team members and have the opportunity to contribute transcriptions on the Maria Edgeworth Letters Zooniverse site.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Edgeworth and acquire or hone basic skills in reading and transcribing early nineteenth-century manuscripts, many of which have never been transcribed before. All contributors will have the option to be acknowledged on the MELP website and may continue to transcribe on Zooniverse after the event. No prior experience or preparation is necessary, and all will be warmly welcomed!

Refreshments will be served.

When: Thursday, April 13th from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M.

Where: University of Tennessee Student Union, Room 270
